Session 2: Landfall

Postby Jeffry » Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:18 pm

Summary:

Octavious decided to send out the 4 teams into the mainland for exploration. One team consisted of Zir, Kass, Siraselle, Samiel, and Arjon (Dragonborn NPC). Another of the teams was Capt. Kid and his party. The Zir and Kass were nominated as co leaders of the party and they explored inland upriver. On the first night strange pipe music was faintly heard by siraselle so he hid in the woods to investigate. Something approached the camp and was spotted by Siraselle who heard it mumbling strange words. Later that night Siraselle was awoken from his nightmares as flames surrounded his bedroll and when he came to his senses and ran for safety he discovered he had grown a set of horns and a tail.

Morning came and the party was still deciding what to do about Siraselle’s strange affliction when pipe music was heard again. They investigated and found two large and colorfull tents and the smell of sweet food and the sounds of pleasant music was emitting forth. Siraselle went for a closer look and found the camp inhabited by four friendly and inviting Satyrs. Soon the whole party joined Siraselle at the satyr camp and swapped stories songs and wine with their hosts. The Satyrs explained that this land was a large island and warned of some of the dangers of the island namely the Gnoll village in the area and the dryad protected woods to the north and a powerful wizard.

The satyrs agreed to return to the ships with the party but along the way one of the Satrys spotted a Gnoll the the brush and both the party and the Satyrs took off running after it for about 40 min. It seemed the Gnoll had escaped to the satyrs stopped to rest and began to play a song. The party all fell asleep and awoke later in the evening to find they had been robbed of many of their valuables and weapons by the Satyrs. They followed the tracks to the river but the Sun had already set and they had been ordered back to the ships by nightfall the second day. Kass decided to chop off Siraselle’s horns to better allow him to hide them. This was done not without a fair amount of struggling and pain. The party found Capt. Kid waiting for them at shore who admonished them for trusting Satyrs and then offered them meat from the huge horse sized dire boar his and his party had trapped and killed. Kid and his crew packed the extra boar meat into the longboats and both parties returned to the ships for debriefing.

At the debriefing Waylon and Octavious were not please d about Lord Nesta’s heirloom weapons and artifacts being stolen but Kid promised his team would help recover the stolen items. A debate broke out and it was eventually decided that a base camp would be established but the ships would not be unloaded until the safety of the place can be confirmed. Octavious goes into private council with Waylon and they decide how to proceed and the party retires for the night. Based on the debriefing Waylon had the Cartographer Nicknamed “Maps” create the following map. The scale is approx 40 miles from sore to the edge inland and 25 miles from top to bottom.

Rough Draft

Zir Zenri

Failure weighed heavy on Zir's mind as he carried a sack of steaming boar meat back to the temporary orphanage housing. He was wrong about everything. Zir's thoughts on everything ranging from the satyr's to Captain Kidd were waning. How naive I am, to believe that the instincts I've developed from that damned city are to aid me out in the vast unknown world. He reached the orphanage door and took a deep breath before entering with a half hearted smile to greet the children.

Cheers grew from the small room as he entered. Apparently, word had already reached the children that Captain Kidd had slew a giant boar, as some of the children began enthusiastically reenacting the scene. Zir raised his hand high, silencing the children. "Everyone, please take your meal time seats, good good. There is plenty of boar here, and Captain Kidd-" Zir swallowed down a scowl "-Captain Kidd even offered up his own share." He walked to where each child was seated and began parceling out meat and bread. "Here you go Marla, don't let Claera take it from you. Theril, you get two pieces so you can feed your baby sister. Jon, stop touching yourself until after supper."

After the meal was done, the children clamored for a story. By popular request, Zir found himself forced to recount the brave actions of Captain Kidd against an army of giant boars. He told it with muted enthusiasm but still the children kept on his every word. Zir finished with no particular flare. "Alright children, time for bed," he said to the groans of the children. Zir snuffed out a few candles as the children made ready to sleep.

Little Marla spoke up from her cot, "Head Acolyte Zir, can you tell us one more story?" The other children agreed. Zir thought a moment, then nodded.

"Alright children, but it is a story of my choosing." And Zir told the children a story about satyrs, trickery, trust, and failure (doing well not to mention himself or his companions). Afterwards, many of the children were asleep save for a handful.

Sleepily, Marla asked, "Head Acolyte Zir, that story was sad. Why did you tell us that story?" Zir thought a spell before quietly responding.

"I tell you children that story to teach you that you can do your best, but still fail. But as long as you keep your character and learn from your experience, a failed endeavor is never absolute. Now go to bed, and remember I'm testing you on the names of Gods and Goddesses tomorrow." Marla yawned in response and started dozing.

Zir put out the last of the candles and stood in the dark orphanage quarters. Without glory, fame, and gold what do I have in this new world? A scheme to acquire money and status from the exploitation of an orphanage?

If there is an extended period of time, my character focusses on 3 things: Developing the Church/Orphanage, Studying Demonic Afflictions, working with the Tree Shaper.

You see, Arjhan, this is why we don't consume alcohol. Even with our wits we were duped by the satyrs. We must be more cautious.

For Session 3.

You see, Arjhan, there is no other choice but to persevere in the face of hardship. Even the good cleric understands this, refusing our aid in throes of exhaustion. He got us into that mess and he was determined to get us out of it on his own two feet.

Also, I've never battled with a cleric before. He made the impossible possible. That dryad, or so Zir called it, was the most ferocious foe I've ever encountered. It tore through my flesh and armor like no other. We must be careful in this new land.
